To Leave Or Not To Leave

To Leave Or Not To Leave. That’s been the big question since the end of last week. Our Country has been in social distancing mode for over six weeks. Depending on your start date some have been housebound for over eight weeks. I get it, it’s hard. This State of emergency has hit everyone’s joy and livelihood. It’s created a lot of anxiety and depression on all levels. My clients have added stressors due to the virus which adversely effects their already challenged set of circumstances. For some, this housebound situation has strengthened their relationships. For others, it is a wake up call to stop living a life that isn’t working for them. Never before am I working with people who ask the question…”Should I Stay Or Should I Go?

I am not immuned to the feelings of social distancing. I haven’t behaved like a functional adult and have acted out through being rather irritable and annoying to the ones I love. Despite my acting out behavior I have made a conscious effort to understand that it isn’t easy for the rest of my family either. My Facebook post may seem like I’m so together, but, I’m just like you and have good and bad days. As much as I want to liberate myself from this social distancing, I just can’t seem to do it until I think it’s safe. I’m taking the next two weeks to observe what is happening to make an informed decision about whether or not to resume sessions in my office. Until then I am video conferencing to help those in need. It isn’t ideal but it is an option. Better to be safe than sorry. I don’t want to get sick and have to manage those symptoms. I heard it’s a bitch to do that. So, let’s exercise a little more patience and see what the next two weeks looks like.

So, if you’re itching to go play golf, camping with your buddies, or have a motorcycle or bike ride with your buds, think twice about waiting a couple of weeks. The wives I work with would appreciate you keeping them and your children in high priority and being mindful to keep yourself safe during a pandemic without a vaccine.

If you want to talk and can’t wait a couple of weeks I am available for video counseling (teletherapy). Call me at (858) 735-1139 or email me at sarahruggeramft@gmail.com
